Speeding vehicles becomes policing priority for Chapel and Chinley
Police will be putting the brakes on speeding motorists around Chapel and Chinley after setting the issue as their current neighbourhood priority.
The priority was agreed by officers and local residents after concerns were raised at the latest Safer Neighbourhood governance meeting on Tuesday, January 28.
Following residential complaints of motorists speeding along Burrfields Road, the local policing team are taking action to highlight the importance of safe and considerate driving.
Officers from the Chapel and Chinley Safer Neighbourhood Team will be heading out on patrol and speaking to motorists about the importance of sticking to the law on the roads and issuing warnings or fines to anyone breaking the limit.
PC Crosthwaite and PCSO Green will also be teaming up with members of the public to carry out Community Speed Watch events in the area to target those exceeding the limit.
The scheme has equipment which displays the speed of passing motorists, alerting them as to whether they are abiding by the speed limit or not.
The volunteers will take down details of vehicles that are excessively speeding and the information is fed back to the local neighbourhood policing team so that warning letters are issued to anyone caught speeding in the area.
Residents are invited to attend the next Safer Neighbourhood Governance meeting to help set policing priorities on Tuesday, April 22. The meeting will be held at Rems Bar on Market Street, Chapel-en-le-frith from 7pm.
Anyone interested in joining the Chapel Community Speed Watch Scheme is asked to contact PC Crosthwaite or PCSO Green on 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police.
